Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled with President Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate issues like the Iran Contra scandal.
